High Standard Supermatic Citation Series 104 .22LR “Space Gun” Target Pistol
Description:
High Standard Supermatic Citation Series 104 .22LR “Space Gun” Match-Grade Target Pistol, shipped from its Hamden, Connecticut manufacturing facility in August of 1964 according to Historian John Stimson of the High Standard Collectors' Association. Rare and highly sought-after 8” tapered barrel (measures 9" with muzzle brake attached) is grooved for included barrel weights; the removable front compensator/stabilizer/muzzle brake, when attached to the bull bore muzzle together with both barrel weights, gives this reliable and highly accurate target pistol its unique "Space Gun" appearance.
Comes with both barrel weights – 2 oz. & 3 oz. – and includes two (2) 10-round magazines, one that is stamped “High Standard”. Pistol has a fixed front sight and a micrometer rear target sight mounted over the barrel chamber that is adjustable for windage and elevation. Push-button barrel takedown for cleaning and to swap out barrels, serrated trigger with incorporated trigger stop screw. Weight of trigger pull may be adjusted by the screw on the frame above the rear strap and beneath the slide; trigger pull may be brought down to almost ½ lb. Pistol was test-fired and trigger has a crisp glass-like break, spent casings were authoritatively ejected every time. Serrated front and rear grip frame straps are in excellent condition with zero wear, has customary High Standard slide and frame markings with matching serial numbers, this world-class match pistol incorporates an enclosed hammer and is fitted with flawless factory original crisp-checkered plastic grips featuring High Standard Large Gold Eagle medallions and a butt-mounted magazine release.
I purposely included several “hot” photos taken under bright lighting to hide nothing and to clearly depict markings that are present on each side of the bull barrel muzzle caused by the allen screws that affix the muzzle brake (not visible when brake is attached), and another “hot” photo that depicts a focused exaggeration of minor surface scratches that appear on the left of the slide – presumably caused by the safety being inexplicably engaged when the slide was in its locked-open position. These light slide scuffs are not nearly as visible as they appear in macro close-up photo #2, which was taken with a bright LED light directed roughly 8" from the slide. Also included several pics taken during disassembly and cleaning that depict rust-free internal components and a frame that has maintained excellent bluing. (Of course, tweaked soft-light pics look nice, but reveal nothing…) Otherwise, this all-original 57 year-old match-grade pistol bears virtually no other handling marks, no pitting, no rust, no edge bluing wear, etc. Bore is shiny and mirror smooth, reveals distinct lands and grooves. Slide, trigger, safety and magazine release functions are smooth, tight and deliberate, mechanically the pistol is in fine and fully functional condition. A wonderful opportunity to own a rare, unique and dead-accurate High Standard .22LR Match-Grade Target Pistol to collect and enjoy.
