Hammerli 208S

Description:
Unused, NOS Condition, factory original S-model weights in 80, 200, and 230 gms, complete OEM tool kit, original box, instructions, special additional advertising leaflet for the 208S model, and original red box.

In further detail:

Hammerli (SIG) 208S, with the usually desired barrel weights (80, 200, 230 gm), the original 2x 8rd extended base magazines, tool kit with all hex wrenches present including the 0.9mm size (difficult to see in the photos, but present), barrel cleaning brush and OEM holder, OEM tool kit spare parts, multitool, instructions, and original SN matched box.  SIG model 1.200.003.  Additional magazines (several types, matched to the gun before shipment), are available at extra cost.  Cosmetically less perfect exemplars also are on hand and can be made available on request, at lower cost.  Other magazine capacities and other weights are available with firearm purchase. These additional items are offered only in combination with a Hammerli 208/S-215/S series gun.

The tool kit for this version differed from the later, blue box version, and is significantly more complete, and included spare parts. The box interior is the original foam liner. This has deteriorated less than usual, and has not been removed.

Tool kit, weights, instructions, added leaflet, and box all are original to this gun, and are the correct items for the model sold.  This often is not the situation with Hammerli guns sold as if complete with weights, magazines, tool kits, boxes, and the like.  Many times, those accessories are not the original items, are incorrect "historically", and sometimes, simply won't fit or work properly.

Being unused, this gun is not at full attainable accuracy. This usually requires 500-1000 rounds of use. Additional magazines available with purchase at extra cost, as are a few other-mass and alternative barrel weights.

In comparison to the "economy" 215S version of this gun, the 208S, in general, has a much better finish that is black oxide rather than black polymer, some internal parts are different and easier to make and assemble with no major effect on function or accuracy from those differences. Statistically on testing of multiples of these guns, the 208S is slightly more accurate on the average than the 215S on average, due to difference barrel geometry, and slightly tigher tolerrances at some critical areas.  The finish on this gun, however, is of unusually high quality for any 208 or 208S.

The factory-issued tool kit for this "red box" version is more extensive, with better quality cleaning tools than the later, blue box versions, but unlike the prior 208 models, it included the S series multi-tool that was new with the S model, has all the usual hex wrenches, and the OEM barrel brush that was provided with the red box model (and prior non-S 208, 212, and 120).

This gun has had no use (see images of side and breech areas) other than factory test firing (test target not available), and has not had the level of firing needed to reach full accuracy. The black oxide finish on this gun is unusually "deep" or dark and dense, as in the photos. The finish and standard, adjustable grip have not been retouched or additionally coated for these images. It is a higher quality as a finish, than found on most 208 and 208S guns.

The gun is marked as being entirely Swiss made, not having the German-made frames (Tiegen), used on some Hammerli guns.

The additional barrel weights are highly desirable to optimize feel of the gun, and for tuning of accuracy.  Some are very rare in today's market.

Estimated retail shop value of this item is great than $3600 due to the value of the weights, quality of the grips, level of prior use, condition of the box, additional literature, and current but increasing rarity of these in the marketplace.  An offer of $3500 plus shipping likely will be accepted, but other offers can be considered.  Final price will depend on number and type of additional magazines and weights desired, and if the purchase is combined with other guns.  This is the last of my reference set or library of 208S-series guns in NOS condition with complete accessories. Other 208S, and one 215S, can be made available that are less perfect cosmetically or have had higher levels of use, but are lower in price.  Feel free to inquire for details.  Additional magazines are available at extra cost.  With the 208/S-215/S series guns, the magazines MUST be matched to the gun for proper feeding.

The Hammerli 206-215 series guns should not be used with high velocity ammunition.  Please note also, Hammerli and SIG-Hammerli used three different chamber sizes on their guns, but did not mark the guns as to the size used.  This gun uses the smallest and tightest or European size. While this produces the best accuracy, the tight chamber dimension also means the gun will not accept all .22 lr ammunition, and in particular, will not accept most USA dimension ammunition (which includes some Fiocchi and RWS cartridges, and some of the non-match CCI rounds).  Made for the European market, it has no safety.  Importer mark present. The deterioration of the interior padding is present, resulting in some fragility to that interior padding.

A few commemorative 208S were issued from SIG-Hammerli, including one series that used gold plated lettring, but were no different from usual production.  Being more or less concurrent production with this gun than this one, they tended to have tight (European dimension) chambers.  Others with varying degrees of scroll engraving, similar to the factory commemorative 208 International in a wood case, also exist.  It is unclear if the engraving on these were factory placed from SIG-Hammerli before release to distributors, or aftermarket..

** For those wishing alternative guns (208, 215, 215S, 212, P240, TriAce, GSP) or a 208S in less perfect cosmetic condition, these can be made available from the existing collection, with discounts for combined purchases.  Most of these guns are more accurate than this one due to prior use or simply being a better gun, but are less expensive due to cosmetics or lack of extreme rarity in the current market.  None are less accurate or less functional.  Feel free to inquire, as described in the seller information section. **

Shipping will vary with location of the recipient, but usually is around $30-50 for ground transport.
