The Beretta PX4 Storm Special Duty (SD) Type F in .45 ACP was developed in response to the stringent requirements issued by U.S. Special Operations Command for a rugged, high-performance tactical sidearm. Rather than simply adapting an existing design, Beretta extensively reengineered the PX4 platform to meet extreme military standards for reliability and durability in harsh environments, including exposure to sand, mud, salt, water, and extreme weather. The pistol features an extended 4.5-inch cold hammer–forged barrel that maximizes ballistic performance, while Beretta’s rotating barrel system reduces felt recoil and muzzle rise by dispersing recoil forces radially. This design enhances controllability and accuracy, even when firing higher-pressure .45 ACP loads.
 
Designated “Special Duty,” the PX4 Storm SD Type F is equipped with a host of tactical features intended for professional and defensive use. Ambidextrous safety controls, a reversible magazine release, commander-style hammer, and drop-free magazines promote intuitive operation under stress. Three-dot night sights provide rapid target acquisition in low-light conditions, while the integral Picatinny rail allows mounting of lights or laser aiming devices. The flat dark earth polymer frame improves durability and grip in adverse conditions, and the pistol’s tool-free takedown ensures fast maintenance in the field.
