Browning Hi Power .40 S&W Made 2004 w/Original Box, Paperwork
Description: This is the first successful double-stack pistol and has seen service all over the world since 1935. Originally designed by John Moses Browning in the early 1920’s, the prototype was refined over time into the early 1930’s. As Browning had passed away in 1926, the pistol continued to be refined by Dieudonne Saive and he modified the pistol with a staggered column magazine of his design. This gave the pistol an unusually high capacity for the time. The pistol was finally put into production in 1935 as the Grande Puissance Model of 1935. The term Grande Puissance literally means “High Power”. Although rejected by the French military in favor of an inferior design, dozens of other countries adopted the High power. It was used by both Allied and Axis powers during World War Two. It was thought of highly enough by the Germans that they forced the FN factory to continue production of the pistol under the designation of Pistole 640(b) (where “b” stands for “belgisch” or “Belgian”). It was frequently seen in the hands of the Waffen-SS and the Fallschirmja?ger (paratroopers). On the Allied side, it was used by the Special Operations Executive (SOE), the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and the Special Air Service (SAS). The primary reason for this of course was the pistol’s high capacity and reliability in extreme conditions. The pistol is still in use in many places around the world. The Hi Power chambered for the .40 S&W was announced at the 1993 Shot Show. Compared to the 9mm version, the .40 cal. version has an extra recoil lug on its barrel and a matching recess inside the slide that is ¼” longer than the original. The High Power here is in great condition. There is one noticeable spot of finish loss due to pitting on top of the slide. Otherwise the finish is excellent. The bore is very bright with no pitting. The grips barely have a mark on them and the screws are not buggered. The recoil spring is very strong and can be a little difficult to rack sometimes. This is standard for the Hi Power when chambered for the .40 S&W. The pistol comes with its original box, paperwork, and two magazines.
