Antique Manhattan mfg co Bar Hammer Pistol Serial #163
Description: Antique Manhattan Arms Company Bar Hammer Percussion Pistol, made circa 1856-59. The Double Action Bar Hammer single-shot pistol marked Manhattan Fire Arms Manufacturing Company's entry into the pistol-making business in early 1856. The Double Action Bar Hammer made by Manhattan has a distinctive barrel that is half round and half octagon. Even though this pistol was the first effort by Manhattan to manufacture pistols, they had already decided to embellish the gun with hand-inscribed scrolling on both sides of the frame. The bar hammer is marked “MANHATTAN F.A. MFG. CO.” The Manhattan Bar Hammer single shot pistols were manufactured in several different calibers. The barrel lengths may be 2 to 4 inches in length. The Bar Hammer single shot Manhattan pistols are among the rarest of Manhattan handguns. This gun is marked in several places with the serial number 163, indicating this was made very early on in production. There were only around 1500 of these ever made. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have an even gray patina. The markings are clear and legible. The walnut grips are in good shape. The bore is dark. The action on this pistol is very strong. This is real! Not a reproduction. Barrel is 2 inches. Caliber: .31 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. FREE SHIPPING IN THE US SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Manhattan Serial Number: 163 |
