Ciivl War Imported Bavarian German 1826/1842 Horse Pistol
Description:
I am offering a Bavarian/German m1826/42 Horse Pistol possibly imported for the Civil War. The pistol has a 8 ¾” smooth bore barrel and is 14 ½” long overall. The bore is a .69\.70 caliber. The bore is okay and displays some black powder residue on the inside. The stock is very good and has light handling dings. The metal has a smooth, silver gray patina. The pistol functions properly. There are some arsenal markings on the left flat of the stock as well as some inspector or assembler marks on some metal parts. According to Bill Edward’s Book, “Civil War Guns” on page 292, an example of these pistols is on display in The Smithsonian Institution’s Civil War Collection and they might have been some of the horse pistols imported early in the War.
