CIVIL WAR Era SHARPS Model 2 “PEPPERBOX” Revolver Chambered for 4 Shots of .30 Rimfire
Description: CIVIL WAR Era SHARPS Model 2 “PEPPERBOX” Revolver Chambered for 4 Shots of .30 Rimfire Here we present an antique Sharps Model 2 Pepperbox Revolver in .30 Rimfire, made circa 1859 to 1874 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Christian Sharps invented his famously namesake large bore, breech-loading rifle in 1848, after practicing gun-making under John Hall at Harpers Ferry Armory. In 1859, he premiered another unique design in the 4-barreled pepperbox pistol with a unique revolving firing pin, made for 19th Century concealed carry. This repeating design was able to utilize the new rimfire ammunition like Smith & Wesson, without infringing on Smith & Wesson’s Rollin White Patent for bored through chambers on a revolver’s cylinder. This gave Sharps a leg up in the market since everyone else either had to produce single shot pistols, come up with an alternate ammunition and weapon design, or just stick with percussion until the patent expired. They made very nice, easy to use and compact firearms for 19th Century conceal and carry! The overall condition is good. There is a good amount of original blue finish in between the barrel flutes. The rest of the steel as well as the brass have an aged patina. The markings are legible. The numbers match. The grips are in good shape: solid and showing some handling. The bores are dark with visible rifling. The action is not functional. The hammer will not hold the cocked position and the firing pin rotates only intermittently. Nevertheless, a neat little pocket pistol from the 1860s! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3 inches. Caliber: .30 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $835 #190400 SOLD Antique: Yes |
