Guns International #: 101261185
Seller's Inventory #: AH5066
Confederate Inscribed Henry Deringer Pistol. Inscribed on lock “ PVT.J. Clyborn Co-D 1ST SCV. CSA” Barrel length 3” and overall length 6 ½”. Silver Mounted. Action works perfectly. The inscription is very old and appears to be genuine in our opinion. We base that after examining the lock under magnification. The inscription is uneven and crudely done, as you might expect on a Confederate pistol. The key feature in our examination is that the letters have Serifs on each letter. Serifs are the tiny ends of the letter in the form of a “foot” that was used in books, documents and many other examples of literature and presentation Items. Modern fakes almost always Do Not Have Serifs. We have seen at least 200-300 fakes over 50 years and our observation of these fakes is that they lack any Serifs. The patina, wear and overall appearance lead us to the opinion that the inscription is genuine. Included with this derringer are muster rolls from the National Archives Microfilm records. Note: There is no family provenance for this pistol and we can only state our opinion of 50 years (or more) experience.
