Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Eben T. Starr’s Patent Single Shot Derringer, made circa the Civil War/post-Civil War Era in Baltimore, Maryland by the Merrill Patent Firearms Mfg. Company. Only 2000 of these small rimfire derringers in .32 Rimfire caliber were made in total between 1864 and 1869, making this a rare piece to come across. Eben T. Starr was most famous for his innovative Starr Model 1858 Double Action Revolver, the third most prolific handgun of the American Civil War. However, as was the case with many during this period, Starr personally came up with many designs, including this Single Shot Deringer and multi-shot pepperboxes. This pistol was intended for use as a 19th Century conceal and carry weapon, a small gun with a large bore.

The overall condition is good. Some original silver and blue finish are present on the frame. Strong action. The bores are good for their ages. Markings are legible. Both grips are good. This Deringer features a brass frame with a side-mounted hammer and a tip-up barrel. Starr’s patent information is on the left side of the gun.
