Starr Arms 1858 Navy Civil War Pistol
Description: Starr Arms Co. Model 1858 Navy Reolver. Cal. .36 Percussion. 6" barrel. The navy revolver has the shortest production of all Starr revolvers with approximately 3,000 made between 1858 and 1860. It is a all matching number, Military issue. Inspector stamps can be found with the letter "T" on frame, cylinder and barrel. There is a visible cartouche on the left panel that is no longer readable, but outline can be seen. The "T" stands for "JT" which would have been visible on the grip panel (John Taylor). Taylor was a principle sub-inspector. Gun is in excellent, all original condition. Frame retains approximately 20% original blue, while barrel hinge retains some blue, the balance of the gun is a perfectly smooth blue-brown patina. Sharp legends. Cylinder has all perfect nipples and is a blue-brown patina. Grips are excellent with usual small dings. The military received 2,200 "JT" inspected weapons, but few are seldom found so stamped, adding to the rarity of this fine and scarce Civil War Navy Revolver. Revolver has strong bore with frosting. Fine action. This is an extremely fine condition, Military inspected Starr Navy pistol. Serial # 1581. SOLD |
