Colt 1911A1 semi-auto pistol in .45ACP. U.S. ARMY marked and United States Property. Crossed cannons behind the top rear of the grips on the right hand side. G.H.D stamp above trigger well on left side. P below mag release. Small P and what looks to be the number 4 on the barrel chamber. P between chamber and rear sight.
The letters W.G.C. are scratched into the left side of the barrel. Also W.C. looks to be scratched in the frame in front of the Army stamp. A stylized W, likely a cattle brand is scratched into the front strap. The name and history of this item are sadly lost to time. Magazine likely not original and has no stamps or marks. Mag does not spring out when release is pressed and it fails to lock the slide back. When a modern 1911 mag is inserted it springs free and the slide locks back just fine. Everything seems to be in good working order with a shiny barrel and bore. This is a great authentically used working example of the greatest generation's greatest sidearm.
