For sale is a unique 1911 I inherited from my father. A few thousand commercial 1911A1s were transferred to the U.S. government at the onset of the Second World War. These pistols had their commercial serial numbers crudely removed (in ser. range 860,000 - 866,000) and re-stamped with a new military serial number. Some of these guns are unusual as the frames and slides have been cut for the Schwartz safety. The frame on this example has been cut for the schwartz. A commercial target front sight was ground down on the slide and a GI front post pinned to meet the military pattern. The overall condition of the pistol is very good, please see images to assess for yourself. Does not come with a magazine. The BBGV states to add 25-50% for the commercial to military conversion features. The slide has not been cut for the Schwartz as the frame has. I believe the gun was reworked at an arsenal and a new barrel/slide, as well as trigger and hammer were fitted; the barrel and slide are both Colt, however.
