PRE-WAR “BULLSEYE” MATCH TARGET WOODSMAN, .22LR AUTO PISTOL, #MT8XXX, MADE 1940.
Description: PRE-WAR “BULLSEYE” MATCH TARGET WOODSMAN, .22LR AUTO PISTOL, #MT8XXX, MADE 1940. A scarce model introduced by Colt in 1938 with only 16,000 made through 1945. The War years accounted for 4,000 of these for the government and have U.S. markings leaving only 12,000 civilian sales. This example was obviously someone’s carry gun as it comes with a period holster made for this model. The elephant ear grips were replaced with also period correct “FRANZITE” synthetic grips which were made from the 1930s to 1967. Franzite grips were made of an early synthetic polymer to resemble ivory and each grip panel has the Franzite/Eagle with shield medallions. Overall good blue with what I’d describe as “heavy edge wear” from holster carry and handling. Correct adjustable sights, original Match Target marked two-tone magazine. Grips show some green verdigris spots in the checkering from the leather holster that ought to brush out with some oil and a brass brush. Tight action, fine markings, exc. bore, safety functions as it should. Leather holster with snap is in exc. condition with strong seams, brass snap etc. This was Colt’s top of the line target .22 autoloader made in limited quantities during the last years of the Great Depression. These are often found in minty condition for $2500 or more. This one is in the “shooter” category that you can handle and use without worrying about putting a dreaded speck of wear to the blue! $1295. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: COLT Model: MATCH TARGET BULLSEYE Serial Number: MT8XXX Barrel Length: 6 1/2 Condition: VG Bore Condition: EXCELLENT |
