Colt Model 1902 Phillipines Constabulary Revolver - 45 LC
Description: "SALE PENDING" Super Price Reduction. Colt Constabulary. An excellent example of the scarce Colt Model 1878/1902 double action revolver. Comes with beautiful handmade walnut wood presentation case. This model is also referred to as the "Philippine Constabulary". See Wikipedia description below. This 6 shot revolver has a 6" barrel and is chambered for the 45 Long Colt cartridge. The bore is slightly frosted with sharp rifling and will clean up better than photos depict. Inspectors marks(RAC) are several places on pistol. Markings on the right side are 1902 and US. The serial number is 48072. Cylinder # matches frame. Excellent aging with patina finish and original blueing in concealed areas Only example that I have seen with the Colt logo on left grip frame. Most other examples have been through some sort of arsenal rework or polish that weakens stampings. Overall condition is very nice. I have fired this pistol and it functions flawlessly. The design allows some cylinder play until trigger is pulled. Then cylinder rotates timely and locks up tight during firing stage. A box of Armscor(50 rds - 6 spent) 45 LC ammo can be purchased separately. Additional photos available upon request. Please email me for any other questions you might have. NEW LAYAWAY PLANS AVAILABLE. Can email simple/honest options. WIKIPEDIA: The Colt M1878 is a DA revolver that was manufactured by Colt from 1878 to 1907. It is often referred to as the "Frontier" or the "Double Action Army" revolver. A total of 51,210 Model 1878 revolvers were manufactured from 1878 to 1907, including 4,600 for the US Ordnance Department. These are known as the "Philippine Constabulary" or "Alaskan" models. The Model 1878 had a larger frame, and is therefore sometimes referred to as the "large frame" double-action revolver. The Model 1878 was considered a more robust and reliable design than the Model 1877. In 1902, 4,600 Model 1878 revolvers were produced for a U.S. Army contract. They were intended to equip the Philippine Constabulary under Brigadier General Henry T. Allen in the Philippine Insurrection. These revolvers had a 6-inch barrel, a hard rubber grip, and were chambered for the .45 Colt round. They had a strengthened main spring and a longer trigger to give the user more leverage, resulting a larger trigger guard. The strengthened main spring was necessary to fire the .45 Government rounds with a less sensitive primer compared to the civil .45 LC ammunition. Many people have incorrectly assumed that this was to allow the revolver to be operated while wearing gloves , so "Alaskan Model" is a misnomer. Will need to be shipped to FFL via insured means. Shipping to Alaska and Hawaii will be extra. No international sales. No sales to CA. Shipping to FFL in your area preferred.
