Colt Vest Pocket Model 1908 Hammerless Automatic .25 ACP caliber
Colt Vest Pocket Model 1908 Hammerless Single Action Automatic .25 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) caliber (the smallest center fire round that can take a primer), 2 inch barrel, striker fired (no hammer), 6 round magazine, includes advanced safety features (for that time) including a grip safety and a slide-locking safety catch on the left side. In 1916, a third safety feature was added (magazine disconnector) - however this gun was made prior to that change. Serial number = 96,843. The gun was made between 1908 and 1946. This gun was made in 1913. This is one of the oldest guns of this model listed for sale. This gun was made during the 6th year of production. Approximately 420,705 were made. This is a single action gun that was designed by John Moses Browning. John Browning also invented the .25 ACP caliber cartridge. This model was also referred to as Model "N" (Colt's internal factory name) or "mouse gun". This was the smallest automatic that Colt made. Compact and very concealable. Grips with the rounded top on the panels are the first type of hard rubber grips Colt used on this model. The Rampant Colt is placed over a stylized "C" on both grip panels. They are the correct grips for this particular gun based on the gun's date of manufacture and the serial number range (guns with serial number less than 105,000, made between the start of production in 1908 and 1914, left the factory with these grips). Heel lock on the bottom of the grip prevents the magazine from falling out of the gun. This same gun was originally made in 1905 by FN (Fabrique Nationale) in Belgium. The FN gun was called Model 1905 - FN 6.35 mm pistol. John Browning sold the patent to both companies. This was the first striker fired gun that was widely accepted. This is a "blowback" design. The barrel does not move when the gun is fired. Highly polished lustrous Colt carbona blue finish (also called "charcoal bluing"). Color case hardening on the trigger, grip safety and the manual safety. Comes with one magazine. It appears that this gun has been refinished. Overall, the bluing is in excellent condition. Slight bluing wear at barrel end of slide. Hard to believe this gun is 118 years old. You will not be disappointed. .
A second set of grips for this gun (beautiful mother of pearl in mint condition) are available for separate purchase from the seller ($225). The mother of pearl grips are not included in the selling price of the gun. You can, however, purchase this gun with both sets of grips for $920.
