1911A1 1943 UNION SWITCH & SIGNAL WITH 1943 HOLSTER
Description: 1943 original Union Switch and Signal Model 1911A1 Pistol with 1943 Holster and proper mag. The Du-Lite finish with blued small parts is original. There is slight holster wear on forward slide edges. I would rate the overall original finish at 98%. The RCD inspection initials [Lt. Col. Robert C. Downie] and the two “P” proof marks [one top of slide, one next to mag release] are placed after finish. To establish original finish, the RCD shows bright metal and the “P” proofs show some bright and burnish. The feed ramp is also bright. [see photos] For some years the serial number was stamped after finish but not this year. The “P”, firing proofs are the same size indicating an original matching slide and receiver. Note the flame hardened darker color around the slide lock notch area on left side of slide. This indicates post April 1943 production. I have dismantled and examined each part for originality and finish. All parts are original to pistol with the possible exception of the recoil spring plug. The original plug is supposed to have a round indent and this one looks more rectangle as is the Colt plug [see photo]. Other than that, everything from the reinforced stock holes to the High Standard barrel is original to the pistol. The barrel is bright, clean with strong grooves. The magazine is a proper blued Scovill marked mag. The 55,000 Union Switch and Signal Model 1911A1 surviving pistols produced during WWII are rare. With the exception of Singer [500], the next higher numbers are Colt (400,000), Ithaca Gun Company (400,000) and Remington Rand (900,000). The Enger-Kress holster is also marked 1943. This pistol appears to be the best example of a Union Switch and Signal M1911A1 currently available for purchase. PAYMENT OPTIONS: I accept USPS Money Orders and personal/business checks.
