This is an original Colt National Match Pre-War Model. It was made in 1937. The National Match was first introduced in 1930 at the National Matches at Camp Perry, and finally entered production in 1932. Over 4,813 National Matches were produced between February 9th, 1932 and September 16th, 1941, when production ceased likely to fill increasing military contracts submitted by a U.S. military all too aware of the fact that the U.S. would eventually be pulled into the ongoing war in Europe (though it came sooner than even they expected). The National Match was the top-of-the-line target model of Colt’s semi-autos, similar in respect to the Shooting Master in their revolver lines. The action on the National Match was polished to perfection providing a greatly improved trigger pull. After about serial number C177000, Stevens adjustable rear target sights became available. Of the pistols produced, 3,339 had fixed sights and 1,474 had adjustable sights. This particular National Match pistol is in good condition. It was professionally re-blued at some point, leaving the markings in roughly 99 percent condition. The re-blue was done using a hot salt bath bluing rather than the original rust bluing process, hence the glossy blue vs an original flat bright blue. Nonetheless, the pistol is still in fantastic shape. The bore is quite pristine, and the trigger pull is naturally light. The grips are in great shape for their age.
