Colt Ithaca 1911 A1 U.S. Property with Provenance
Description: U.S. Property 1911-A1 with slide marked "Colt PT. F.A. Mfg. Co." with the latest patent date being Aug. 19, 1913". Frame is marked "United States Property" and "M 1911 A1 U.S. Army" on left side. Serial number is 123xxxx which dates the frame to 1943 Ithaca production. Original Checkered hard rubber grips and lanyard loop and one magazine. Gun is in about 95% overall condition showing the average wear on a gun of this vintage and history. Included with the firearm is a Notarized Affidavit from the step-daughter of one Capt. Happy who I acquired the gun from. Capt. Happy had an extensive career in WWII joining the U.S. Army Air Corps. and seeing extensive action in Europe and the South Pacific serving as a member in the famed 312th Bombardment Group referred to as the "Roarin' 20's". Also included is a Sear's "U.S." marked holster, and a copy of the book "The Roarin' 20's; A History of the 312th Bombardment Group" by Russell L. Sturzebecker (1976). Capt. Happy is featured on page 243 posing in front of the nose art on his A-20 which features a photo of his late wife who had died during child birth. The Affidavit states these stories and other pertinent info. was written and notarized by the inheriting step daughter. Also included is the Captain's Distinguished Flying Cross medal. A very high condition gun w/ excellent provenance.
