COLT, M1911, USMC, c.1917, Colt Letter, SN: 210402

Description:
             Colt made many M1911 pistols for the US Government. They were sold under contract to the Army, Navy and the USMC. The Army and Navy contracts are easily identifiable by the marked words “ARMY” or “NAVY”. The USMC was not so particular, they just wanted good quality pistols. The USMC contract guns are marked “MODEL OF 1911. U.S.ARMY” and are identifiable only by serial number.
          This gun is an interesting variation.  In 1917 the USMC received 5 shipments of M1911s totaling 2800 pistols. This pistol SN 210402 was shipped as a frame only intended to be used as a spare part. Notice that as a “Spare Part” it has no firing proof or acceptance marks. Some marine armorer built a pistol around the frame. It never went through a post war rebuild so it may have been souvenired after WW1.
Meticulous cleaning has removed most of the bluing from the slide and frame leaving a matching patina. The original blue has been protected under the grips. The scalloped edge frame lightning cuts are exposed under the grips. The diamond grips are worn, matching the overall condition of the pistol.  
          The armorer used a WWI Remington UMC barrel that remains in fine condition having a bright bore with the slightest frosting.
          This historic USMC M1911 pistol was purchased from Scott Gahimers’ collection on 10/6/26. Scott is perhaps the nations highest profile expert on the variations of Colts .45 Cal. semi Auto pistols. His is M1911info, a valuable information source for all things M1911, M1911-A1 and Government Models.

RETURNS:
Returns must be made within 3 days of receipt. They must be received in exactly the same condition with no parts exchanged.  If it has been altered, damaged, or fired, a refund will not be made.  Packing, shipping and insurance cost will not be refunded.  All layaway purchases are returnable for merchandise credit only.
 PAYMENT: 
Bank check, Personal check, and Money Orders are preferred. Visa and MasterCard are accepted with a 3% processing fee.
 LAYAWAYS: 
A 20% deposit is required.  Balance is due in 30 days. Deposits are non-refundable and are forfeited after 40 days.  Layaway sales are returnable for merchandise credit only.
SALES TAX: 
Pennsylvania state sales tax is 6% for in state purchases. The payment of other states’ sales tax, if applicable, for shipped items is the buyers responsibility.
