COLT 1911 100% SHIPPED AUG. 1918 WITH RARE S&R HOLSTER
TWO TONE MAG AND COLT LETTER
Description: The 100% condition of the pistol matches the 99% condition of the very rare date appropriate S&R holster (mfg. only 1918-1919). The perfect brushed blue finish is proper for serial number. The rough or “black” finish came latter with less durable results. The finish appears original and 100%. I draw this conclusion from the after bluing Eagle Head mark under “S12” showing bright metal depth (see photo), very slight shallow blue on left rear edge of slide and visible grain in the metal. I purchased this pistol about 45 years ago. It has remained in my safe. This lack of use combined with the extremely rare holster in similar condition suggests it was used by some high ranking individual or non-shooter who kept it in a drawer for occasional shooting. Keep in mind this date is late in the WWI event. There are similar period Remington Rand 1911s out there that are unfired. The Colt letter states the pistol was shipped on August 1, 1918 to the Bush Terminal in Brooklyn, NY. That facility opened in 1918. I don’t often debate the Colt letters but the Goddard book The Government Models, has it shipped as an individual pistol to Small Arms Proving Grounds, Springfield, July 1918. Every part, from hammer to barrel are verified proper original to year and Colt using the Harrison identification specs. Even the two toned like new mag has the post 125,000 bluing which stops prior to the second inspection hole. The barrel and slight interior movement lines shows the pistol has been used. But not much. This is a rare condition 1918 Colt example with a very rare holster and mag. PAYMENT OPTIONS: I accept USPS Money Orders and personal/business checks. Items paid with US Postal Money Orders will ship forthwith. Items paid with checks will ship when check clears. Usually within 10 days. Payment must be received within 10 days of purchase.
