Colt .45 ACP - 1911, THE 2ND BATTLE ON THE MARNE, LIMITED EDITION, UNFIRED, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Colt, Year 1969, .45 ACP, 37oz sans magazine Serial Number: 2975-M2 When released in 1967, these handsomely decorated pistols were issued to commemorate the upcoming 50th anniversary of The United States participation in World War I. There were four Colt .45 ACP 1911's issued commemorating actions at Chateau-Thierry, Belleau Wood, Marne River (2nd Battle) and Meuse-Argonne; each with a battle scene engraving on the slide and insert battle bar on the grip. All models were displayed in a khaki-colored wood showcase with reversable battle map and history of the action. This individual Colt 1911 is finely finished in the classic Colt Royal blue, deep and lustrous in its application it frames the battle scene engraved on the slide depicting the famous action. After slowing the German offensive of July 15th, the Allies launched a counter offensive that included eight American divisions. The attack was launched on July 18th and by July 20th the German assault had failed and so began a retreat back to their original starting points. The Battle Marne was a turning point in the war. Besides being that last great German offensive of the war, it marked the entry of American troops into the conflict. This colt has historically accurate 1911 style hammer, slide stop, safety lock, mainspring, receiver and trigger. The grip panels are French Holly with inlet bronze medallions and banner. Because of the display mounting the gun does not have a magazine, however if ever the need arise any standard 1911 mag would fit perfectly. This Colt honors the past glories of the those perilous times and the sacrifices made by the men of the American Expeditionary Force to help stymie the advancing German Army.
