COLT U.S. 1911, CAL, .45 ACP, SER. 60533 with RARE A.J. Savage Munitions CO. SAN DIEGO, CA. Slide.
This is an arsenal rebuild done around 1920. It is fitted with a Savage slide. At the late stages of World War I A.J. Savage obtained a contract for the 1911 to be made on Springfield equipment. Before delivering any completed firearms, the order was canceled. However, small quantities of newly manufactured slides were sent to the Springfield Arsenal. These slides were later used in the 1920s for rebuilding World War I 1911 frames. Occasionally these rebuild slides appear on Colt Frames.
This example is in super condition, retaining about 95% of the original arsenal blue on the frame and original Savage blue on the slide. The little loss there is, is from minor flaking and very slight sharp silvering. The grip straps have toned slightly. All parts are correct for the 1911, the barrel is a correct Springfield. It has the original Cold double diamond World War I grips, which are almost perfect. There is a slight nick on the left panel. The grip screws are fine.
The slide rails, bolt face and feed ramp show very little if any use. The bore is mirror bright with razor sharp rifling. Here is an opportunity for a serious investor/collector to get a rare 1911 variant at modest price..... Shipped..... $2295***
