Colt 1911 British contract .455 Eley shipped in April 1918 to UK 1of100 in that shipment. These pistol were bought by the UK government and issued to the Royal Flying Service, later known as the RAF. This pistol has all the correct proofs for this contract. According to Clawson all these pistols were refinish after WW1 in Royal Arsenals, this one was salt blued at sometime in it's life and well done. These were two war pistols as they were reissued during WW2. According to the previous owner, who is now 84, he purchased the pistol in 1961 in Baltimore, MD. This pistol was at sometime in it's life converted back to .45ACP. The barrel still carries BNP proofs so when an where it was converted who knows, maybe for WW2 by the British?
