Colt 1877 .41Colt - AKA THUNDERER, 1895, 95% FACTORY, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Colt, Year 1895, .41Colt, 24oz., 4 1/2" Barrel Serial Number: 98892 Vintage Firearms Inc is pleased to offer this Colt Model 1877, also popularly known as the Thunderer. This is Colts first Double Action/ Single Action pistol design and was as popular as the famous Single Action Army for the 32 years of its production. This example retains 95% of its original factory case color and bluing. The hammer and trigger show areas of nitro blue, the bore has sharp rifling and a mirror finish, the barrel retains 96% blue. The gutta Percha grips are in excellent condition and bear Colts Rampant colt. Screws are excellent, fit and finish is superb. The Colt 1877 shows a striking resemblance to Colts SAA and this was a deliberate ploy by Colt to encourage adoption of double action revolvers by associating the ‘New Kid On The Block’ with its most famous product! Offered in .38 and .41Colt, famously the larger of the calibers was nicknamed the ‘Thunderer’ by Ben Kittredge, a famous entrepreneur, salesman, and news writer of the time and the name stuck. About 167,000 guns with various barrel lengths were manufactured between 1877 and 1909 this example having a 4 ½” barrel with ejector rod. This pistol was built in 1895 and has matching serial and assembly numbers, including old graphite markings on the inside of the grips. This pistol is an antique and can be shipped directly to your home. Thanks for looking!
