Model 1862 Colt Pocket Navy

Description:

Rare Colt Model 1862 Pocket Navy revolver, manufactured in 1862 and chambered in .36 caliber.  The Model 1862 Pocket Navy is a desirable variant that combines the compact frame of the Pocket Model with the larger .36 caliber bore, offering a balance of portability and effectiveness.
This example is all matching numbers. The revolver features a 4.5-inch octagonal barrel, which shows a mix of light and dark gray patina across the exterior, along with light to moderate pitting scattered throughout. The address line on the top of the barrel remains clearly visible.
The bore is bright with visible rifling, though there is moderate to heavy pitting present throughout, consistent with black powder use and long-term aging.
The revolver is equipped with a 5-shot cylinder, which displays a mix of light and dark gray patina. The “stagecoach holdup” scene engraving is still faintly visible, a desirable and iconic feature of Colt percussion revolvers of this period. The cylinder chambers are dull, with brown, indicating age and use.
Mechanically, the revolver remains functional, with correct cylinder timing and minimal play both at rest (hammer down) and at full cock, which is a positive indicator for a revolver of this age.
The hammer exhibits a mix of light and dark gray patina with moderate to heavy pitting present, consistent with the overall condition of the firearm. The frame also shows a similar mix of patina, along with light to moderate pitting scattered across its surface.
The backstrap and trigger guard retain good brass coloration, though they show some dulling and scattered light pitting, which is typical for exposed brass components on antique percussion revolvers.
The revolver is fitted with ivory grips, which display discoloration and scattered blemishes across their surface, consistent with age and handling. These grips add to the revolver’s visual appeal and period character.
Overall, this Colt Model 1862 Pocket Navy, manufactured during the Civil War era and retaining matching serial numbers, visible cylinder scene, and strong mechanical function.  It represents a solid and authentic example of a mid-19th century Colt percussion revolver, suitable for collectors of Civil War firearms or early Colt revolvers.
