Antique Colt Thuer Derringer. Type 3, Second Issue With High Hammer Spur and Tight Grip Curl. Mint Bore. 95% Condition.
Description: SOLD...Antique Colt type 3, Second issue Thuer Derringer. Here is an excellent Colt Thuer Derringer.. Caliber is the .41 Rim Fire .. Standard 2 1/2” barrel.. It is an early type 3 model, second issue with the tight grip curl at the bottom of the grips and has the early high hammer spur.. Both of these features can be clearly seen in the photos. These are not near as common as the later type 3's made with the standard grip curl and the sloping hammer spur. This model also falls into the absolutely antique range unlike the later ones that were made into the early 1900's. This little Derringer is in fantastic condition as you can see. The barrel retains 90% original nickel finish.. It has an excellent barrel marking.. It has NO dings on the breech end of the barrel from being closed improperly with the hammer in the down position. Most all of these you will find are pretty beat up on the breech end of the barrel from this.. The frame has 99% original silver plating.. A couple tiny specks of brass showing through the silver on the high edges below the hammer. Never cleaned on or messed with.. The mechanics are excellent as to be expected.. Crisp and tight as a new gun.. Rock solid like new barrel to frame fit.. Both safety and full cock notches on the hammer are perfect and positive. The spring loaded extractor works like new also and is not sticky or froze shut. The bore is mint bright and shiny with NO pitting or frosting.. Sharp rifling like new.. Very hard to find even the later ones with mint bores, let alone these earlier ones that seen black powder use.. Most all of these Derringers have terrible pitted bores with hardly any rifling even showing.. The grips are fine and matching and a perfect factory fit.. They do however show some dings and minor loss on the bottom and some dings on the bottom grip strap from pocket carry probably banging around on another item being carried in the pocket.. A pocket knife or pocket watch, another Derringer, who knows ?? These Derringers where not carried in holsters. No other cracks or chips.. The screw heads show some minor turning but nothing burred up bad at all and all are very serviceable. Untouched front sight .. This gun has been in my personal collection for many years. I kept it because of being the early style, the high condition and the mint bore. I hate to see it go because I will never find or be able to afford another one like it so it is time for it to move on.. I do not think this gun has been fired much at all and just shows normal pocket carry wear as to be expected. Here is one of the betters ones out there for sale so don't miss it if you are looking for this second issue style with most all the finish and a mint bore.. I also have several boxes of the .41 rim fire ammo I would sell but it has to go UPS ground shipping. $20 insured shipping for the gun.. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.
