Colt Third Model (Thuer) Derringer, Factory Nickel with color case hardened hammer and spur trigger, caliber .41 RF with 2.5-inch barrel, SN: 36783. Characteristic single-shot sideways-action design and ejector rod mechanism. Simple half moon blade front sight with no rear sight as typical of pocket derringers of this period. Top of barrel marked with italic "COLT" with full serial number "36783" on frame under grips. Smooth unnumbered walnut grips. The Third Model Derringer represented Colt's most popular pocket derringer design, initially advertised as "Colts New Deringer" and engineered by F. Alexander Thuer who designed the innovative side-pivoting barrel mechanism that made production more efficient than the earlier Moore-designed models. ANTIQUE!!!
Condition:
VG+ original factory nickel plating with sharp edge and light handling wear, rub marks near the breech exposing the underlying brass. Comparable condition grips retaining the majority of their original varnish, each panel with thinning over the crested surface near the butt, the left side flattened with darkened oil staining. Mirror bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics.
