Here we present an antique Colt First Model Derringer Pistol, made circa 1880 in Hartford, Connecticut. Colt's First Model Derringer was based on the design first manufactured by Moore Patent Firearms Co. and then the National Arms Co. before it was purchased by Colt in 1870. They were manufactured until 1890 with a total of only 6,500 pistols manufactured making this one of the lower production Colts for your collection.

Colt advertised this model as the "No. 1 National Derringer." This example has flourishes of scroll engraving on the sides of the frame and behind the hammer and a burst pattern at the breech. The top of the barrel is stamped "COLT'S PT.F.A. MFG.Co/ HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." followed by "No 1". This little pocket pistol has the distinction of being the very first single shot pistol made by Colt to that point.

The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age with worn rifling. Lightly engraved frame. There is some wiggle at the hinge when it’s closed/locked up. Markings are legible. Numbers match. Here is a scarce example of a 1st Model derringer from Colt!
