Description:
This is a very attractive "3rd Model" Colt Woodsman Match Target .22 LR pistol made in 1970. The Colt Woodsman Match Target model was the top-of-the-line target version of the well-known Woodsman model line. The Match Target quickly earned a reputation for being an extremely accurate, reliable, and handsome pistol from the Colt firm, and were a commercial success throughout the production run. This "3rd Model" Woodsman Match Target Model features a gloss blue factory blue finish, a 6" inch "heavy" barrel, a factory slide stop and hold-open, black plastic or walnut target-style grips, adjustable target sights, and a bottom "heel" magazine release. These 3rd Models were not stamped with the Woodsman name, only the Rampant Colt logo and "Match Target" on the left side of the frame. This particular example has black plastic grips and is in very good condition overall. The original factory blue finish rates 90% with only minor wear/thinning on the high edges and grip straps, and a small spot above the Rampant Colt logo of pinprick pitting from some surface rust that was removed long ago. It is obvious that this Colt has been lightly used but well cared-for over the years. The bore in this pistol is superb, mirror-bright with sharp rifling and no visible imperfections whatsoever. The black plastic grips are "2nd Model" pieces with provisions for the frame mounted magazine release, but fit this pistol nice and tight and look handsome. The grips are in excellent condition and free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or wear. The checkered panels are both nice and clean, and the Colt logo is in perfect shape on the right grip. All of the controls on this Woodsman are in perfect working order and the slide to frame fit is excellent. The internals are clean and show very little to no mechanical wear. It is obvious that this Match Target has been shot very little for it's age. This Colt comes with one original factory 10-rd magazine in excellent condition overall with nice strong spring pressure. If you have been looking for a vintage .22 semi-auto pistol for your collection that you can take out to the range or farm and shoot that will also be a great investment, this 1970 Colt Woodsman Match Target would be an excellent choice.
