Colt 38 super OSS pistol

Description:
This piece is a Colt 38 super OSS shipped military Pistol. AS per the letter included. Shipped July 20 1945 to the us government. It for some reason not know to me was changed to a Colt 38 super supermatch looking gun. Its a very well done piece . the GHD and the cross cannon have been removed and the words Super Match put on the slide. The rear and front sight are correct for a super match , all the internal parts are in the white and polished as they should be. The grips are the correct military grips and the magazine is the full blue pinned one in excellent condition. the bore is very nice, the function is perfect as well, The barrel isnt the colt correct marked supermatch but the words 38 super match words are roll dyed on the belly of the barrel.Under the new barrel words is still the faint words collt 38 super. So the original barrel is still in the gun. Has a correct colt hammer and mainspring housing are correct as is the trigger.The slide stop is correct for this gun.I have fired this piece and it shoots flawlessly as all suppers iv'e owned. The fit and finish are as good as colt could have done , Smooth and the correct color . This piece was shipped to the government in a wooden crate, this one was in crate number 9 .There were 15 crates 25 guns per crate. The person who decided to change the configuration to a Super match type is unknown to me. Its a real OSS pistol in the its new configuration. Why? I have no idea. Its a beautiful colt 38 super with great original looking finish. OSS/ super match. There are very few OSS pistols known to be in collections. There might be 15 known pieces in collections. Here is one of them hiding in plain sight now as a super match look a like. Its a very cool and very good looking gun as is .
