The Colt Double Eagle is a Double-Action/Single-Action (DA/SA) semi-automatic pistol designed to modernize the classic M1911 platform. Manufactured by Colt's Manufacturing Company between 1989 and 1997, it was the company's first major foray into the double-action market to compete with modern service pistols of the era. Unlike the single-action-only 1911, the Double Eagle allows for a long, heavy first trigger pull (Double Action) and short, crisp subsequent pulls (Single Action). Decocking Lever located on the left side of the frame, this lever allows the shooter to safely lower the hammer over a chambered round without a manual safety. It utilizes the Series 80 firing pin safety system, which prevents the gun from firing unless the trigger is fully depressed. .45 Auto
