Description: 19th Century Antique DERINGER COPY Pocket Pistol .40 Caliber Percussion 1850s ENGRAVED Self Defense Pistol! Here we present an antique Deringer Style Percussion Belt/Muff Pistol, made circa the 1850s. This single shot pistol that fires a .40 caliber ball and was intended for self-defense. These were initially designed and produced by its namesake, Henry Deringer, but caught on and other gunmakers and dealers began producing and selling unlicensed copies and imitations from coast to coast! This little self-defense pistol would have been most at home in the pocket of anyone in the busy cities like New York, Philadelphia, or Chicago during the tumultuous times of the mid-1800s. These type pistols are small, light and simple. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The hammer is a later replacement. The bore is in good shape and remains clear. “DERINGER” is marked on the barrel tang but is slightly obfuscated. The stock/grip is in fine shape with less than average wear. Sharp engravings.
