Single Shot Self Defense Spur Trigger Pistol

Here we present an antique Merrimack Arms Co. Southerner Deringer made circa 1869-73 in Newburyport, Massachusetts. There were approximately 16,000 of these little single shots built following the Civil War from 1866 to 1873. The first three years of production were made under the name Brown. From 1869 to 1873, they were built under the name Merrimack in their own serial range of 1 through approximately 10,000. The iron frames are found in serial number range 1950-4500 and made up less than 30% of the production while the rest were brass frames. Obviously, the iron frames are by far much harder to locate. Brown and Merrimack also produced Ballard Rifles before being sold off to Marlin in the early 1870's.

The overall condition is good. Strong action. Bright bore contains a light patch of pitting. Legible markings. Both grips are in good shape. Numbers match.
