Documented Matched Set of A. Wurfflein .40 Cal Philadelphia Derringers

Beautiful Matched Pair of Engraved & Gold Banded A. Wurfflein Philadelphia Style Deringers!

Antique set of percussion pocket pistols with approximate .40 caliber rifled bores. Manufactured in Philadelphia, PA by Andrew Wurfflein circa 1850-1860. This set was formerly sold by James D Julia in 2013 for the hammer price of $4,000. They had this to say about the set “This is a fairly well matched pair of pistols considering they had been apart for many years and reunited at a Las Vegas gun show about 20 years ago (see Man at Arms, Feb 1995, p. 39).” and “PROVENANCE: Dick Littlefield; Tom Wibberley; Doug Eberhart; Dave Stewart collection.”

Configuration: 8 ½” overall length with a 4.5” barrel (including breach) with flat top stamped “A. Wurfflein” & two gold bands at the breach, dovetailed German silver blade front sight, fixed rear sight with “v” notch, “PHILA.” marked locks with scroll engraving, ornate German silver mounts with scroll engraving, wood ram rod, smooth curved trigger, serpent head engraved hammer, and checkered fancy walnut stock with bag grip.
 
Inclued a copy of the February 1995 issue of Man at Arms, in which an article was written about the pistols.
 
Condition is Very Good to Fine. Pistol retains remnants of original finish in the protected areas with the balance displaying mottled patina with some pitting. The action are mechanically sound with the nipple broken on the top pistol, the bores are clear, and the figured walnut stocks are good with cracks & small losses.
