Description: ENGRAVED/SILVER Mounted A.J. PLATE Antique DERRINGER .41 Percussion Pistol “J. DERINGER” Period Copy Henry Deringer’s Pistol Here we present an antique A.J. Plate Marked Slotter & Co. Period Copy of Henry Deringer’s Percussion Pocket Pistol, made circa 1858-60. Herman Adolph Joseph Plate was San Francisco’s most famous 19th Century arms dealer and secured his place in history when he lost a patent infringement lawsuit over the infamous Deringer pistol. President Abraham Lincoln was shot and killed with one of Henry Deringer’s pocket sized percussion pistols, the night John Wilkes Booth revenged the South at the Ford Theater. Henry Deringer was a very successful Pennsylvanian gunsmith who started his own company in his early twenties, circa 1809. It was not until the 1850s that his prototypical “Deringer” percussion pistol became extremely popular. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The smooth bore is good for its age. The grip crack is repaired and stable. Worn checkering. Markings are legible. Nicely engraved lock, hammer, and guard. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
