Excellent Sharps 4 Barrel Derringer, Model 1-B
Description: An excellent original example of the famous Sharps four barrel .22 caliber derringer produced at Sharps philadelphia factory from 1858-1868. The Sharps Derringer was very popular as both a personal sidearm during the Civil Warm and an, "Ace in the hole", on the American frontier. It could be loaded with four .22 short metallic cartridges and its reliable single action mechanism manipulated quickly. Its small size was well appreciated by those in daylight or darkness, in nefarious pursuits and other situations. This example is one of the relatively scarce and early three digit serial number Model 1-B types with left side button barrel release of which only 3,000 were produced. It also has the scarce original full-nickel-plated finish (see "Sharps Firearms" by Frank Sellers, Beinfield pub., 1978, pp 128, 138). CONDITION: This Sharps derringer retains 96%+ original nickel plate finish with slight aging and little evidence of use. There is no high edge or carrying wear and the frame markings are clear as they ever were on this model (see pictures, "Sharps Firearms", pages 132,134,136,138,139). Mechanical functions are excellent and bores are fine+ shiny with crisp rifling and some age/storage rust. This pistol has beautiful original grips with wonderful patina. An especially fine and handsome example of its type for collectors of high condition Civil war arms, Sharps arms, and firearms of the American West. This Sharps has been in a private collection foir nearly thirty years.
