Rare Wm Schneider & Co Memphis Tenn Large Size Deringer Style Civil War Era Pistol

Wm Schneider & Co Memphis TN large sized Deringer style pistol with sheathed trigger and round muzzle. Marked on the lock plate: Wm SCHNEIDER MEMPHIS TENN. Metal appears to have been cleaned at some point with areas of pitting. Wood is solid with a pieced sliver on either side along the barrel. Has an extra coat of varnish on the wood. 6 3/4 inch octagon barrel with round muzzle. Looks like it has very shallow rifling, has some light surface rust and pitting in the bore. The hammer clicks on both half and full cock, however it will not hold. Roughly 11 inches long overall. A really neat and hard to find gun, especially marked on the lock. Very well could have been carried into battle in the hands of a Tennessee Confederate soldier.
