Very fine pair of .60 caliber flintlock dueling pistols by Preston of Liverpool. Barrels are 10"" and overall length is 15.5"". Locks have frizzen rollers. Barrels have Birmingham proofs and are slightly swamped at the muzzle. Front sight is a simple blade rounded at the top. Barrels are engraved in fine scrip ""Liverpool"". The stocks are gold wire inlaid at the breech plug tang terminating at the silver shield on the back of the grip for initials or crest. The shields are vacant. The grips of the stocks are flat on the sides and curve on the back and front of the grips. The grip cap is a simple rounded cap with light engraving around the screw head. The trigger guard bow is engraved and the trigger guard finial is in the form of a pine apple. The case contains a powder flask and ramrod with removable brass tip (that covers a steel screw tip for removal of stuck projectiles and wading). The case has a lifting handle and the case closes with hooks and eyelets on the front. Overall this is a fine pair of duelers with niceties such as the gold wire inlay not seen on most dueling sets.
