CASED PAIR of Antique Engraved HOLLIS Sidehammer BELT Pistols LION POMMEL
MATCHED PAIR of .65 Cal. BOXLOCK PERCUSSION Pistols
Description: CASED PAIR of Antique Engraved HOLLIS Sidehammer BELT Pistols LION POMMEL MATCHED PAIR of .65 Cal. BOXLOCK PERCUSSION Pistols Here we present an antique Cased Matching Pair of Engraved William Hollis “Manstopper” Boxlock Sidehammer Percussion Belt Pistols, made circa the 1840s-50s in Cheltenham, England. William Hollis had a gun shop on the High Street in Cheltenham between 1829 and 1856. These little self-defense pistols would have been most at home in the waistband or pocket of anyone in the busy cities of London or Paris, or anywhere in Western Europe during the tumultuous times of the mid-1800s. These pistols are small, light and simple in function. The “Belt/Pocket Pistol” name says it all. They were the "Saturday Night Specials" of the 16th-18th century. Before the Deringer, they were "Gentleman's" or "Muff Pistols", Typically, a smaller pistol that was easily concealed. They were favored among the gentry and women because of these traits. Men would carry them concealed in a waistcoat pocket or on their belt, and women would hide them in a hand muff. The bores are a “Manstopping” .65 caliber. The barrels are British proofed and marked “HOLLIS CHELTENHAM” on the top flat. There are small silver thumb plates atop the hand-checkered grip. The overall condition is fine. Both actions are excellent and strong. Bores are smooth and dim. Grips are solid. London proofed. The case is in near fine condition with minor repairs to the velvet lining. Also included are numerous accessories included in the William Hollis trade labeled case, including a small powder flask, a cap tin, a loading rod, balls, a pick, a key, and a nipple wrench. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel are 4 inches. Calibers: .65 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
