Description: ORIGINAL CASED PAIR BRITISH JOHN MANTON & SON PERCUSSION OFFICER’S PISTOLS CIRCA 1840. Superb all original set of highest quality pistols in exceptional condition. 13” o/a with 8” octagon .69 caliber (British carbine bore) smoothbore Damascus sighted barrels with double gold bands at the breech engraved in ornate floral gothic lettering “MANTON LONDON”. Ornate scroll and floral engraving on the blues steel mounts and the case hardened locks and safety equipped hammers. Lock plates engraved “MANTON”. Walnut checkered stocks with silver forend caps, wedge escutcheons and wrist plate. Ornate silver “LION HEAD” butt caps. Original rosewood ramrods. Superb condition with nearly all the brown Damascus finish on the barrels and blue on the mounts. Most of the case hardening on locks and hammers and finish on the stocks. Excellent bores and perfect working order. With the original mahogany green baize lined case as supplied with Officer’s pistols by John Manton & Son without provision for a bullet mold as the Officer’s were provisioned with carbine bore cartridges from ordnance stores. Accessories include the flask, ramrod and screw driver. With old sales receipt from Westley Richards when they were sold in 1955. SOLD Antique: Yes |
