Iconic Post-WORLD WAR I Era DWM 7.65mm c1920 mfr. GERMAN LUGER C&R Pistol MADE UNDER THE TREATY OF VERSAILLES
Description: Iconic Post-WORLD WAR I Era DWM 7.65mm c1920 mfr. GERMAN LUGER C&R Pistol MADE UNDER THE TREATY OF VERSAILLES Here we present a C&R 1920 Commercial German Luger Pistol, made circa 1920 by Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) in Berlin, Germany. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars. The “Crown over N” proof mark is located on the barrel of the pistol. The Crown over N is a German pre-World War II proof mark used before April 1, 1940. The "N" indicates that the gun has been proofed with "nitro" or smokeless powder. The top of the toggle is marked “DWM”. This is what is commonly called a “1920 Commercial”. The reason for this is that immediately after World War I the German government was forced under the Treaty of Versailles to dispose of their 9mm pistols, so they re-barreled them in the smaller 7.65mm parabellum and large numbers were sold off commercially and to foreign governments. Also, manufacturers such as DWM weren’t allowed to produce 9mm weapons, thus the smaller 7.65mm (original Luger cartridge) chambering. The overall condition is fine. The chamber was polished of any previous marking and the pistol shows signs of period factory refinish. Action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. Numbers match throughout. The interior of the grips nor the wooden magazine bases are numbered. Grips are in nice shape with only a small chip behind and under the safety lever. This one comes with spare magazine. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 3-3/4 inches. Caliber: 7.65x21mm (.30 Luger) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2400 #228354 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
