IMPERIAL GERMAN 1918/1920 Dated WW I DWM Semi-Automatic 9mm ARTILLERY LUGER Iconic WORLD WAR I German Pistol Military Sidearm
Description: IMPERIAL GERMAN 1918/1920 Dated WW I DWM Semi-Automatic 9mm ARTILLERY LUGER Iconic WORLD WAR I German Pistol Military Sidearm Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R World War I Double Dated “1918” & “1920” DWM (Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken) Pistole Parabellum P.08 Artillery Luger Pistol, originally made in 1918 by DWM in Berlin, Germany, and later marked “1920” to indicate retention by the Weimar-era military. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. In 1900 the United States ordered 1,000 Lugers in 7.65x21mm Parabellum, or .30 Luger, for infantry and cavalry trials. It received pushback from soldiers that said the caliber was too small and the firearm itself was unreliable. Which, in turn, led to DMW developing the 9mm caliber version of the Luger shortly thereafter. The adoption of the Lange Pistole, aka the “Artillery Luger”, was authorized by the Kaiser on July 2, 1913. This P08 variation was equipped with a 200 mm (7.9 in) barrel, an 8-position tangent rear sight (calibrated to 800 meters (870 yd)) and a board-type shoulder stock with an attached leather holster. In the event of close combat, the pistol was intended to be used as a carbine with the shoulder stock attached to a lug mounted on the heel of the pistol frame. When set for long range use the rear sight element visibly moves to the left to compensate for spin drift. This pistol was intended for use by German artillery units who could not be encumbered by the long and heavy K.98 rifle. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars. The top of the chamber is Great War dated “1918” with a rework date of 1920, likely being done due to damage incurred during World War I. The top of the toggle is marked “DWM”. The right side of the frame bears German military acceptance marks. The overall condition is good. Original finish and patina. The action is excellent. The bore is in very good condition with very good rifling. The grips are sharply checkered and in nice shape. The numbers match on the barrel frame barrel extension. Takedown lever sideplate trigger safety lever toggle assembly numbers are from a different gun. The grips are unnumbered. Own the original! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 8 inches. Caliber: 9mm Luger Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee.
