WW1 Issue 1917 DWM Naval Luger w/ Matching Magazine
* ALL MATCHING ORIGINAL! *
Description: This is a very handsome, all-original, and matching WW1 German Navy Luger made by D.W.M. in 1917, and complete with an original-issue matching magazine. This Navy Luger is a very handsome example that has been very well-cared for over the last 108 years that is 100% functional, with PERFECT mechanics and a bright minty bore. The 6" barreled Navy Luger was designed with a 2 position rear sight with 100 and 200 meter settings, positioned at the most rearward location behind the toggles, and the rear gripstrap was machined with an integral stock lug. The gun would have been issued with 2 matching magazines, a hard-shell leather holster and harness, and a flat board stock with attachment hardware at the front. The leather holster was affixed to the board stock, and the pistol, stock, and holster were all worn across the body with a shoulder strap that made up the harness. The idea was that the pistol could serve as both an offensive and defensive weapon for the soldier that carried it in ship to ship engagements at sea or otherwise. The longer barrel, adjustable sight, and detachable should stock would vasty improve the effective range and accuracy of the 9mm weapon, allowing the user to place accurate fire on the crew of the enemy ship at distance, as well as serve as a defensive weapon equal to a carbine in accuracy within 200 meters, yet vastly superior in rate of fire being semi-auto compared to a bolt action weapon. It was made under the same doctrine that the Artillery Luger was made under, just with a slightly shorter 6" barrel for easier movement within the tight confines of a ship rather than the 8" inch barrel of the Artillery model which was designed for use in the open spaces of a battlefield. Navy Luger production was the lowest among the WW1-production Lugers, with many more Artillery Models made than Navy guns, and exponentially more 4" inch Lugers made. Between the low production numbers made, and the number of guns lost when the ships they were on were sent to the bottom of the oceans/seas, finding one as nice as this that still has one of the original matching magazines is extremely difficult. As you can see from the pictures, this D.W.M. Navy is very handsome with lots of eye appeal. The original finishes are all intact, with the vast majority of the finish wear and thin spots all located on the high-edges from being carried in a holster while in service, and it is totally free from any eye sores or significant deductions. The original finishes that remain are consistent in every way, and uniform in their appearance. This is a "one-looker" in that nothing looks out of place or suspect, and is because there is nothing to excuse or apologize for. Every part on this gun is factory-original, and ALL of the parts that are supposed to be numbered are intact and matching. The golden yellow strawed finish original to the safety lever, trigger, magazine release button, take-down lever, and ejector, all still show some of the golden yellow finish, with the protected areas showing a deeper yellow. As the least durable of the factory finishes, many of these guns no longer even show traces of this color. All of the factory markings are crisp and clean, and all of the controls on this Luger are in perfect working order. The bore is mirror-bright with sharp rifling, and we have no doubt that this pistol will still function and fire just a reliably and accurately today as the day it left the factory in 1917. The original matching magazine is equally as nice, marked with the Naval inspection mark and gun's serial number as it is supposed to be. The feed lips are clean, the loading button intact, and the wooden bottom is still nice and tight within the metal magazine body. If you have been looking for one of these extremely cool and scarce Lugers,it would be very hard to improve upon this 1917 D.W.M. example in ANY regard.
