WWII Era “Blank Chamber” DWM German LUGER P.08 9mm Semi-Auto PISTOL C&R
ICONIC German Pistol Style Used in BOTH WORLD WARS
Description: WWII Era “Blank Chamber” DWM German LUGER P.08 9mm Semi-Auto PISTOL C&R ICONIC German Pistol Style Used in BOTH WORLD WARS Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R World War II Era Commercial Blank Chamber DWM (Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken) Semi-Automatic P.08 German Luger Pistol, made circa the mid to late 1930s by DWM in Berlin, Germany. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. In 1900 the United States ordered 1,000 Lugers in 7.65x21mm Parabellum, or .30 Luger, for infantry and cavalry trials. It received pushback from soldiers that said the caliber was too small and the firearm itself was unreliable. Which, in turn, led to DMW developing the 9mm caliber version of the Luger shortly thereafter. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars. The “Crown over N” proof mark is littered throughout the pistol. The Crown over N is a German pre-war proof mark used before April 1, 1940. The “N” indicates that the gun has been proofed with "nitro" or smokeless powder. The top of the toggle is marked “DWM”. Most of these Commercial Lugers were chambered in 7.65mm Parabellum. The reason for this is that immediately after World War I the German government was forced under the Treaty of Versailles to dispose of their 9mm pistols, so they re-barreled them in the smaller 7.65mm parabellum and large numbers were sold off commercially and to foreign governments. Also, manufacturers such as DWM weren’t allowed to produce 9mm weapons, thus the smaller 7.65mm chambering. But, as World War II approached, Germany wasn’t really worried about following the treaty, thus production began again producing the 9mm pistols. The overall condition is excellent. Original finish. Robust action. The bore is bright with strong rifling. Fine grips retain sharp checkering. Visible numbers match. Markings are sharp and clear. Own the original!
