US Navy Remington Flare Gun Marked for New York Navy Yard
Description: This is a rarely seen US Navy MKII (not the much more common MK III) single shot flare gun chambered in 10 gauge. This one is serial numbered 249 with all matching numbers. Barrel is 9" with a mostly smooth, lightly oxidized bore with some scattered light pitting. Metal surfaces are a mix of blue/plum patina with some scattered oxidation and older light corrosion. Top of the barrel is clearly marked "MARK II". The brass frame is a dull patina and is marked on the left side "Navy Yard, N.Y." The two piece smooth walnut grips have minor dings, handling marks and small chips along their bottom edges at the lineup pins. They are stamp-numbered to the gun. The mechanism seems to function well and lockup is only slightly loose with the breech being off face just a bit. Estimates range from a few hundred to perhaps a thousand units manufactured. FFL or C&R SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
