Glock G17L Gen 3 6.02” Long-Barrel Target Competition Pistol New in Box
Description: The G17L or Long Slide is one of Glock’s more interesting developments. It was originally introduced in 1988 in a Gen 1 configuration and introduced in its current Gen 3 configuration in 1998. At the time of its introduction, the G17L was somewhat unusual as very few semi-automatic pistols had a barrel of 6-inches length or greater at that time. There was a police-only special-order S&W Model 5906 Competition model, but these were few and far between. Then of course, there was the AMT Hardballer Long Slide which was a stainless steel 1911 with an even longer 7-inch barrel. That pistol is famous for its used by the T-800 in the first Terminator film during the nightclub scene. As the Hardballer Long Slide was not a common sight either, the G17L would have stood out pretty well back in 1988. The pistol was mainly intended for competition use, being issued from the factory with adjustable rear target sight rather than the fixed sight common to most Glock pistols. The most important feature of the Glock G17L is the long sight radius it provides, that being over 8.25-inches in length. By comparison, the venerable 1911 sports a sight radius of 6.8 inches on a full-size or Government model. The long sight radius of the G17L gives it a high level of accuracy. The longer barrel also allows it to make good use of 9mm ammunition, particularly the +P and +P+ varieties, resulting in higher velocities and muzzle energy than a standard 9mm pistol. Believe it or not, despite its intended use as a competition pistol, the G17L has been used by military forces and law enforcement on a limited basis. For example, the Romanian Brigada Antiterorista (Counter Terrorism Brigade) was at one time known to use the 17L. The pistol shown here is new-in-the-box and ready to go. It comes with the box, a spare magazine, the manual, loading tool, sight adjustment tool, and a cleaning rod and brush. As someone who owns a G17L, there are a couple of tips for using the Glock 17L with aftermarket accessories. If the pistol is fitted with an Alpha Wolf 6.56” threaded barrel, bullets of 124 gr or heavier will be required as 115gr will not be enough to cycle the slide all the way, especially if the pistol is brand new. If fitting a flashlight, use a longer flashlight type, a short one like the TLR-1 will allow the longer slide and frame to block a part of the light beam, creating a shadow wherever the pistol is pointed.
