Here we present an antique Engraved Liege Proofed Percussion Double Barrel Knife Pistol made circa the 1840s in Liege, Belgium. This interesting 19th century combination sidearm is a fairly rare collector’s piece and has a fixed 7 1/4 inch blade, a pair of smoothbore barrels with Liege proofs, folding triggers, and scroll and hunting scene engraved German silver scales over thicker horn scales.
Single and double-barrel knife/pistol combinations like this are fairly uncommon. Most date to the 1840s and 1850s, when a lot of people still didn’t trust the newfangled revolvers or even pepperboxes. With the exception of some made in England, most carried no makers’ markings at all. Belgium and Germany were the main source of these types on the European Continent.
The overall condition is very good. Patina throughout. The actions are strong. The bores are dark. The knife blade still has a bit of an edge and is nice and straight. The German silver grips have very nice engraving.
