Antique ASA WATERS M1836 Percussion DRAGOON Pistol
MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR Period Pistol, Dated 1837
Description: Antique ASA WATERS M1836 Percussion DRAGOON Pistol MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR Period Pistol, Dated 1837 Here we present an antique A.H. Waters U.S. Model 1836 Percussion Pistol, made in 1837 in Milbury, Massachusetts. This pistol would have started out as a flintlock and had a period conversion as the new technology developed. There were actually two manufacturers of these guns: Asa Waters and Robert Johnson. Combined, the production totals 41,000 guns. This was the last U.S. martial pistol to use the flintlock system, and many consider this the best of all U.S. flint guns due to its craftsmanship and aesthetic appeal. The gun is historically significant as this was the primary issue pistol during the Mexican American War (1846-1848) and was even significantly used during the American Civil War (1861-1865), especially in this percussion converted format. The lock plate is roll-stamped with an eagle head above "A.W. WATERS/MILBURY. MS./1837" in three lines. There is a single letter “M” inspection mark on the left side. Many of these were lost to attrition during the various conflicts listed above, and many were converted for use, as is this one, by the North & South during the Civil War. This one comes with an original powder horn. The overall condition is very good. The iron parts are gray with age. The markings are clear. The walnut stock remains solid. There is a small and immovable crack just forward of the trigger guard on the underside. The bore is smooth and dark. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. The powder horn is in fine shape. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8-5/8 inches. Caliber: .54 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1600 #190370 SOLD Antique: Yes |
