Wonderful Remington Model 1891/1901 Rolling Block Target Pistol, a pre-WWI single shot firearm chambered in .44 S&W Russian, with a 10" half round, half octagonal barrel and adjustable sights, well noted for its exceptional accuracy, this example a Transitional Model assembled with a Model 1871 frame and military cartouched grip. ANTIQUE.
Description:
Remington Target Model 1891/1901 Transitional Rolling Block .44 S&W Russian single shot pistol with 10" half round, half octagonal barrel whose caliber ".44 S&W R" on lower surface. Top of barrel with single line Remington address. Left side of the color case hardened frame marked with two-line Remington Ilion address referencing patents in 1864 and 1866. Per the original Model 1871 frames that were used in both Models 1891 and 1901, this example has "P" and "S" inspection stamps. As a target model, the barrel is fitted with a drift adjustable blade front sight, rear portion of blade with brass insert, and a horizontally adjustable rear sight. Typical rolling block loading mechanism. Smooth walnut forend and grip, the left side of the grip with military cartouche. Disassembly shows the "1808" under the barrel and "3031" and "3257", the "3031" marked inside the wood grip.
Condition:
Near Excellent original condition with the barrel retaining 98-99% of its original factory blue. Case hardened receiver and a trigger guard with muted colors. Bright polished loading gate and hammer with minimal spotting, VG forend and VG/EXC grip with the cartouche on the left side nicely imprinted. Mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics. A wonderful, transitional target pistol, assembled from an 1871 frame and military grip, now a sought-after Target Pistol chambered in .44 S&W Russian. ANTIQUE.
