Unusual Brass Frame Tap-Action Side x Side Double Barrel Flintlock Pistol by Patrick of Liverpool

NSN, .450 Caliber, 2 13/16" barrels with very good, lightly pitted bores. This is a handsome and well-made pistol that has a tap-action lock allowing for the firing of the left then right barrels in sequence, or both barrels simultaneously. The barrels have an overall mottled bright pewter gray patina, with thin dark freckling throughout, as well as matching witness numbers at the frame junctures: "7" and "8". The brass frame has a dull yellow-ochre patina throughout, with engraved flag and drum vignettes on both sides bearing oval panels that read "PATRICK" on the left, and "LIVERPOOL" on the right. The centrally sprung cock, frizzen, and trigger guard have a mostly dark plum-brown patina, interspersed with dull gray, and the flat-sided bag-shaped walnut grip has minor handling marks and small blemishes scattered throughout the old oil finish, and the shield-shaped escutcheon is blank. The action is fully functional and locks firmly at both half and full-cock. The Patrick family was a gunmaking concern that operated in Liverpool from 1796 to 1832, started by Jeremiah Patrick (1796 - 1814), continued by his son Edward (1805 - 1830), and finally by Edward’s widow Ann (1821 & 1832).
